Delhi College of Arts and Commerce a prestigious college of University of Delhi virtually celebrated 74th Independence day. Despite the nation being marred by the catastrophic coronavirus pandemic, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce tried to keep the spirit and enthusiasm of Independence Day alive by organising an online Independence Day programme. The celebration was organized on Google Meet and began with a flag hosting video alongside the national anthem.

Aryaman Kumar, a student from the Political Science department recited a beautiful poem celebrating the sovereignty of our nation, followed by Yashmani Kumar Saman’s recitation of a poem written by Shri Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, flavoured with patriotic fervour and zeal.

Mr Hemant Vats, Chairman of the governing body of DCAC put forward his views about the significance of Independence Day by talking about how independence is not a one-time victory, but rather a continuous struggle. He also mentioned that students can play a big role in nation building. He calls students and faculty members to come forward for making India a developed nation.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Vikrant Khandelwal, a social thinker and educationist spoke about the history of Independence Day and enlightened the students about the different features of the New Education Policy. He highlighted how this policy will help towards the making of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Youth’. Mr. Khandelwal in his speech inspired students to serve the society. He beautifully described the important features of India New Education Policy. He mentioned that how in near future students of our country will not be required to go abroad for higher education after fully implementation of this policy. Students will get world best quality education in our country in near future. He talked about National Research Foundation and also describes how NRF will enhance the innovation and research in this country. He also mentioned that due to this policy, students will get multiple exit options during their study.

After his powerful words, Apurva Adhikari, a 3rd-year student, performed a medley of patriotic songs, evoking feelings of national unity and pride.

Dr. Anuradha Gupta, the Principal of DCAC, gave a short speech, reminding the attendees of the sacrifices made by our great freedom fighters. Citing their role in actualizing the dream of a better and brighter future for our country, she encouraged the students to brush up on their skills during their free time by engaging themselves in various part-time or online internships.

The event concluded with the sincere vote of thanks by Dr. Tarjeet Sabarwal, the head of the journalism department of DCAC.
