70,000 families to take the pledge and turn their homes ‘green’
New Delhi, June 3, 2020: Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi (PSG) appeals to the people across the country to take a pledge to turn their houses and living spaces “eco-friendly (Harit Ghar)” and thereby contribute to reducing environment abuse. The pledge can be taken simply by registering on PSG website https://paryavaransanrakshan.org/ by June 5, 2020, this year’s “World Environment Day”. Once the pledge is taken, individuals and families can begin making their own homes “eco-friendly” by following five simple steps or panch sutras. Areas, where each family or individual can contribute, relate to addressing issues on water, waste, energy, kitchen garden and taking care of birds/animals.
Saving water, energy, turning homes and dwellings into zero waste units to developing kitchen gardens or providing water for birds and animals can be done with easy steps. Adopting rainwater harvesting, re-use of greywater, use of aerators in taps could lead to water conservation. Segregating waste into dry, wet, medical waste and dispersing them accordingly could help deal with everyday domestic waste in a big way. Using kitchen waste for compost, selling reusable/recyclable waste, installing a solar water heater, solar panels, LED bulbs, growing garden, vegetables for home needs, installing bird and animal feeder could be the starting point to turn your homes ‘harit Ghar’ / ‘Green Homes’
“These measures can be undertaken gradually and one can strive to make one’s own home an energy-efficient and eco-friendly unit so that natural resources usage could be limited and the stress on our environment is lessened. If these green measures are adopted by every house in our country, we can leave a greener planet for our future generations” said Rakesh Jain, Co-convenor Paryavaran Gatividhi.
